Uzi is a family of submachine guns, manufactured by the Israeli concern, Israel Military Industries (IMI). The name "Uzi" was given in honor of designer of weapons, Uzziel Gal.
The submachine guns, "Uzi" are based on a scheme with a free lock: shooting is done with an open lock. The shot is made not long before the arrival of the lock in the forward position. In its most forward position the lock seems to cover the top of the barrel breech. This design allows to reduce a little the length of the weapon for a given length of the barrel.
The UMP submachine gun was produced by the German company NC in the 1990s as a cheaper and newer addition to the family of MP-5 submachine guns of the same company.
The UMP is the weapon with a non-free lock. Since the UMP in the original was designed for firing with large-caliber cartridges, and because of difficulties in feeding with .45 cartridges compared with 9H19mm, the practical rate of fire reduced to 600 rounds per minute, making it one of the "slow" submachine guns at the market.

The upper half of the receiver is made of aluminum, the bottom - of the polymer. The change lever of the fire modes is displayed on the both sides of the weapon, the firing modes include single and continuous bursts.
